Oakland School for the Arts (OSA) is a tuition-free public charter school and 501(c)(3) nonprofit that believes every talented young person deserves access to an extraordinary arts education. Founded in 2002 by Jerry Brown, then Mayor of Oakland and later Governor of California, OSA combines rigorous academics with immersive arts training for 800 students in grades 6–12 from Oakland and the surrounding communities.

Located in Downtown Oakland's historic Fox Theater, OSA admits students through a 100% audition- and grade-blind process, ensuring access is based on potential rather than privilege. Approximately 81% of OSA students are Oakland residents, many coming from historically under-resourced schools. Fifty-one percent of OSA students live in low-income census tracts.  Together, they form a vibrant, diverse community where artistic excellence, academic achievement, and opportunity flourish.
