Special Residency Program

As part of an intensive exploration of Noh theatre, OSA Theatre is excited to welcome Theatre of Yugen for a week long residency November 26-30. Founded in 1978 by Yuriko Doi, and under the current leadership of Nick Ishimaru, Theatre of Yugen is an experimental ensemble with a foundation in Japanese Noh drama—the world’s oldest living style of theatre. 11th and 12th graders in our Acting and Musical Theatre majors are receiving intensive training in the form which will culminate in Noh dance pieces based on the work of the American playwright Tennessee Williams. We're excited to welcome Mr. Isihimaru and Theatre of Yugen to OSA for this unique project.
Community Collaborations

Community Collaborations

This year the OSA School of Theatre is producing two of its mainstage shows in collaboration with local professional theatre companies. Young Jean Lee's Church was produced in association with Crowded Fire Theatre, the Bay Area's leading incubator of new work. Later in the year, Hamlet is being produced in association with Ubuntu Theatre Project, Oakland's leading professional ensemble theatre. Each play will be presented by our producing partner and then by the OSA School of Theatre with its own cast and production crew. We're excited to partner with these two highly respected theatre companies and create spaces in which students can learn alongside established artists.
