Course Descriptions

1st Year Students

 
This fundamentals course covers everything from the science of sound to the processing of audio signals in both the Analog and Digital realms. Students learn how to record, edit and mix original songs, sound design, live sessions and voice work in the studio and on the computer. Students will also learn the fundamentals of MIDI and electronic music production. To round out a comprehensive Audio Engineering curriculum, students will be learning the basics of the analog gear used in the recording studio to facilitate recording sessions of their own outside of the Digital Audio Workstation and implement acoustic instruments.
 

2nd Year Students

 
Second year students take control over their creative projects by diving deeper into some of the functions in Pro Tools and Logic Pro X. They begin to use the functions specifically designed for post production including sound for film. Second year students learn to operate the deeper functions of the recording console and begin to take control of recording sessions in the studio for both collaborative projects and AP&E projects.
 

3rd Year Students

 
Students take control of the pre production process and see it through to final release and distribution while also creating documentation and branding to support their work. Third year students will be well versed with both Logic Pro X as well as Pro Tools and will also have plenty of experience working with various types of talent.
 

4th Year Students

 
Students will have the freedom to create their own projects and are also focused on building a portfolio before they graduate from OSA. They will assist other departments with sound, mentor other AP&E students and be responsible for internship opportunities in addition to the creative work they produce throughout the school year.
