Social Science Department Chair Message

Welcome OSA students and families! The Social Studies department is looking forward to working with you :)

As a department, we're continually working on curriculum that helps students develop Common Core skills. Those skills will help prepare students to be successful in the college and career worlds. This continues to be a change from the standards-based curriculum of the past. The Common Core focuses more on skills that students can build on and transfer from grade to grade rather than zeroing in on specific pieces of information. Students will still be learning the Social students content they were before, we are just trying to deliver the information in a way that helps them build on Common Core skills. If you'd like to learn more about the Common Core, you can visit the http://www.cde.ca.gov/re/cc/

Each teacher has their own wish list and classroom needs. If you'd like to donate supplies or your time, please feel free to visit teacher blogs/Google Classrooms or contact individual teachers.

Our middle and high school Social Studies teachers are always willing to offer extra support to students. If your student feels that they need some help outside of class, they can check in with teachers during office hours or lunch time.
