from STEM to STEAM at OSA

Welcome to STEAM at Oakland School for the Arts. We have recently opened a STEAM Lab in the Newberry Building across the street from the Fox Theater. As schools worldwide work to keep up with the changing demands of the scientific world, the concept of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education has evolved in many learning institutions to STEAM (the “A” representing the arts).  Oakland School for the Arts is dedicated to leveraging the exceptional creativity and demonstrated discipline of our students to position them at the forefront of this movement.  As it is becoming more commonplace in the world of technological advancement to recognize the creative process as being an integral part of pushing its boundaries, our STEAM lab is designed to be a space available to all OSA students and departments for exploration and development in these areas. Our plan is to have all students experience the Lab, where they can solve problems in a tangible way using materials that range from paper and glue to 3-D printers and laser cutters.
