JOY, PASSION, ENERGY, SWEAT, TEARS, HEART, SOUL, EXCELLENCE, WORK, WORK, MORE WORK.  For, here, at OSA’s School of Dance, we spell dance W-O-R-K. The School of Dance is and will always be the hardest of all the Art Schools.  Students in the School of Dance take pride in being the hardest working students in the school.  The hard work and energy that they put into all their classes every day brings them a sense of confidence, joy, and, above all, fulfillment. The physical and mental demands and acuity that are required and expected out of every student are incredibly intense.  All students of the School of Dance must fully embrace and strive for the high standards that are set for them in their art, in their academics, and, hopefully, in their lives.

Students from OSA's School of Dance have gone on and been accepted to such schools and training programs as University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA), Ailey/Fordham BFA Program, London Contemporary Dance School, San Francisco Ballet School, Joffrey Ballet School Trainee Program, and Joffrey Jazz/Contemporary Trainee Program; have danced on such TV shows as So You Think You Can Dance, America's Got Talent, and Glee and for such artists as Janet Jackson, Nicki Minaj, Selena Gomez, Jason Derulo, and Ariana Grande; and have been awarded scholarships to Summer Intensives at Juilliard, School of American Ballet, The Ailey School, UNCSA, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Joffrey Ballet School, Boston Conservatory, San Francisco Ballet School.

OSA’s School of Dance has a proud reputation of excellence, built upon caring yet highly demanding expectations for student effort, that is held closely by its student, alumni, and the professional artists who make up its faculty.

The opportunity to receive training and maintain access to training at OSA’s School of Dance is determined by professionals assessing each student’s arts and academic progress, commitment, and behavior. Showing their best efforts in each of these areas every day will serve to expand the student’s abilities and open doors.

The School of Dance at OSA partners with Savage Jazz Dance Company (SJDC) to provide multiple opportunities to students including:

• Professional instruction, workshops, and masterclasses provided through regular faculty as well as guest teachers and choreographers, through our connection with SJDC
• SJDC's After School Program, providing discounted dance classes to the OSA Community and beyond
• Opportunities to perform in the community, afforded to select OSA School of Dance students through SJDC's connections and reputation in and around the Bay Area
• Opportunities to apprentice and perform professionally with Savage Jazz Dance Company for select students demonstrating talent, drive, hunger, and professionalism

“One must remember: to achieve one’s dream, one must first wake up.”  -Unknown

"The goal of art is self-reform. It's not about getting a job in the few companies existing. It's about creating better human beings. Part of the education here is to get children to understand the law, but to also understand that the law is freedom"

-Alonzo King, Artistic Director of Lines Ballet
