OSA Hosts Chilean Musicians at the New Parish

On October 24 at 2pm, as part of a visiting artist series, Oakland School for the Arts will host Inti-Illimani, a Chilean musical ensemble known for their pioneering musical work in both South America and Europe. Inti-Illimani fuses traditional South American folk music forms with European baroque stylings to create an intriguing world music fusion often referred to as nueva cancion ("new song"). They use a mixture of traditional and modern instruments and are also known for their haunting, soaring harmonies and rich, socially-conscious lyrics.
Exiled from their homeland for many years due to political upheaval, Inti-Illimani spent many years in Italy and has toured extensively in the United States. Oakland School for the Arts is proud to partner with the MLK Freedom Center to bring this exciting musical act to the OSA community in a special arrangement with the New Parish Theater.
