The other difference is the people. Everyone is very much focused on their own work (except for the students who are here to party. I'm not sure what they're focused on, or if they're focused at all) and therefore there's not a whole lot of drama to get caught up in. I'm not living in a dorm, so I can't speak for those students who have roommates, but overall there's very much this mindset of "we are here to learn, and we're paying a lot of money to go here, so why should we waste our time with drama and cliques and the like?" I'm still keeping up with my art, although not nearly as much given how busy I've been. The wild flora here in Santa Cruz is incredible, and I've been doing a lot of botanical illustration. Once I get it set up, people can find some of my current work, along with the programs I've written for my Comp Sci classes at my UCSC website: [ http://people.ucsc.edu/~kebruce ]http://people.ucsc.edu/~kebruce. I'm also working on starting up a blog about how to cook on a student's budget and schedules. More details about that to come. All in all, life is pretty good, and I'm thankful for the skills and experiences I had at OSA. While I don't think that anything really prepares you for college quite like... well, college, I definitely had a decent foundation. Go class of '09! --Ryn --------------------------------- Chelsea Keck is currently attending San Francisco State University and majoring in Theater Arts. She is an aspiring Theater Producer, striving to be the one who makes the shows happen rather than waiting for the job to come to her. Chelsea is the on-site representative of the OSA Alumni Association. She promotes alumni run summer programs such as The D.R.E.A.M. Project and the College Prep course to current OSA students and is a resource for students hoping to put on their own individual shows and galleries. Alongside becoming a Producer of theater Chelsea Keck dreams of one day owning her own artistic venue so that she may lease the space to local Artists and contribute to Oakland’s wealth of artistic expressions. After graduating from college she plans to immediately create a theater troupe and raise funds for the purchase of her own theater. |
